Weber Original Kettle 22inch Charcoal grill

Weber Original Kettle 22-Inch Charcoal Grill Details

This is the BBQ that the Weber brand was built on. Apart from modern manufacturing techniques with a few choice additives like glass-reinforced nylon handles and the one-touch ash cleaning system, it remains largely untouched from the original, which I like.

It features all-weather crack-proof wheels for ease in maneuvering around the garden. The whole thing only weighs 15kg, so that you can move it.

The same enamel-coating Weber charcoal BBQs come with as standard on the lid and bowl. This enamel coating helps keep it wholly rustproof and helps keep the BBQ up to temperature.

The one-touch cleaning system also doubles as a bottom air control damper with an ash catcher bowl below it. You will find an additional heat control damper in the lid.

The lid also has a hook so you can hang the top from the bowl of the BBQ to stop you from burning the grass. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve done it before.

A steel-plated cooking grate is easy to clean and use and, as a bonus, is rust-proof.

Twenty-two inches of cooking space is enough for about 13 – 14 burgers, so enough for the whole football team if required.

What we liked most

This is probably the easiest-to-use BBQ I have ever come across. The heat is simple to control.

If you are entirely new to BBQing, as you grow in confidence in using a charcoal grill, this BBQ can do all manner of grilling with you.

The other great bonus with this BBQ is additions like the Weber rotisserie fit the Weber 22inch Kettle.

What we didn’t like

It’s tough to pick faults with any of the weber BBQ ranges. The ash catcher bowl, in my opinion, is a waste of time and probably its only downfall; if there is the tiniest gust of wind, all the charcoal dust blows away. That wouldn’t be such an issue, but it makes a mess and gets in your eyes if you aren’t careful.

I guess this is why Weber decided to use a full ash catcher can on the Master Touch.

Everdure Cube Tabletop BBQ

Everdure Cube Portable Charcoal Grill Details

Ok, so you might be saying this is a portable BBQ and not in the right section but as a tabletop grill and available under 200 dollars, this hits the sweet spot.

You can cook anywhere with this BBQ; constructed of cold-rolled steel, it has a built-in heat protection shield meaning you can cook on any surface. The handles are cool to touch even during mid-cook, so you can quickly move this with some care when full of lit charcoal.

If space in your cooking area is limited, its dimensions are 9.05 H x 13.67 D x 16.73 W. You can cook on the table right in front of where you are eating.

The Everdure Cube is extremely easy to clean the charcoal tray, firebox, and grill rack are all removable, giving you clean freaks and the ability to scrub the whole lot.

You’re given plenty of grilling space for a small family or casual griller. The grill has room for approx. Six burgers.

One thing this comes with that I don’t recall any other BBQs coming with is a Bamboo preparation board and food storage tray, which is great if you’re on the move.

What we loved

Heston Blumenthal designed this grill, and as a world-class chef, you feel you get something a chef of his stature has created and the knowledge of what you’d need—resulting in nothing short of a clean-looking wacky little BBQ available in a variety of colors.

We loved the additions that this BBQ comes with the most, a preparation board and somewhere to store food in transit is fantastic, especially when a day at the beach is an hour away.

What we didn’t love

No lid for it when cooking bothers me; I love nothing more than injecting a smoky flavor into my food by putting the top on my BBQ, allowing the smoke to engulf my food. It’s not much of a biggie, but just one you should be aware of if you haven’t noticed.

Char-Broil Kettleman Charcoal BBQ

Char-Broil Kettleman Charcoal BBQ Details

360 square inch cooking space is enough for a considerable amount of food, approx. 13 – 14 burgers.

The porcelain-coated cooking grate is a little unusual; however, it prevents flare-ups and stops food from falling off the grill.

A locking hinged lid with a temperature gauge is a standard feature on the Char-Broil Kettleman. Alongside the super-sized adjustable air control damper, it allows you to crank the heat up or down for smoking, not just grilling.

Regarding ash disposal, the guys at Char-Broil thought of this and fitted a removable ash catcher bowl that clips into the bottom of the BBQ.

Wheels on the two rear legs and only 17kg make this easy to move around the backyard.

What I liked best

Two things I like about this grill. One is the porcelain-coated grill; it is so unusual but works exceptionally healthy food doesn’t slip into the charcoal, cooks evenly, and you don’t get greasy flare-ups.

Secondly, you do not need a lot of charcoal to operate this grill. It burns boiling for extended periods; it is one of the better grills on this page for heat retention. It is an efficient charcoal BBQ in the long run; it is relatively cheap to operate.

What I didn’t like so much

The noticeable fault I found with this BBQ is the infamous front leg wobble; however, this is easily rectified and shouldn’t put you off buying this grill. You can add a small amount of ‘bracing’ between the leg and the grill to make the leg rigid again.

Char-Griller Patio Pro Charcoal Grill

Char-Griller Patio Pro Charcoal Grill Details

The powder-coated heavy-duty steel design is very sturdy and durable. The drum barrel design and the lid’s wooden handle make this eye-catching.

A removable ash catcher draw makes removing charcoal and ashes light work. This saves a hell of a lot of time when cleaning.

The lid and bottom ash draw have variable air vents to help you control the heat of the BBQ.

The wooden side shelf is soo handy when grilling and it’s a shame more BBQ’s don’t come with them.

It comes with a cast iron grill grate, which I won’t name, but another BBQ brand makes you pay extra. Cast iron is one of the best materials on grill gates for searing meat and leaving those smoky burnt lines in your heart.

The Char-griller Patio grill is a compact BBQ; however still has enough room for a whole chicken which is ample space for any normal-sized family BBQ.

Wheels make this maneuverable however, steel handles that heat when using make this challenging when lit.

What I adored most

As you can tell from above, the cast iron grill grate is a big bonus when using this grill, especially when searing some excellent steaks.

The side table is another part of this grill that I adored; when having a BBQ, I usually have a small side table next to me, but you don’t need one with this.

What I wasn’t so keen on

For the money, there isn’t much you can go wrong with this; however, it probably needs one of the most thorough seasonings a BBQ will ever need to prevent peeling.

Secondly, this is quite time-consuming to put together. At the most, you would need around 3 hours to season and build this BBQ. Just bear in mind before you buy, intending to grill with straight away.

What you need to look for when choosing a charcoal BBQ under 200

This comes down to only buying something that suits your needs or ambitions. When you’re looking for the best charcoal BBQ under $200, try not to compare the BBQs to those of a much higher price range. Try to find the best in your price range and not what you could have if you spent more money.

I have hand selected all of the BBQs abovefor their quality and just great functionality as a charcoal BBQ. So tthereisn’t much more to look for apart from which one you are going to choose?

What did I consider before choosing these BBQs?

My must-have features when I looked for these BBQs are first, does it qualify as being under 200 bucks? At the time of writing this, I can confirm this is correct.

Secondly, have I used them? I don’t want to start telling you about a product I haven’t already used; that’s bad form.

Thirdly, if I haven’t owned them, would I own them? If I wouldn’t, then they’ve been removed. Yes, I have eradicated a few selections from the original list.

As I’ve mentioned, I like looking at BBQs, so if it doesn’t feel like good quality, you or I would probably know.

I’ve used some nastily cheap BBQs, and you find things like the lid doesn’t fit the grill. The legs don’t line up correctly, so the whole bottom of the BBQ isn’t straight. It’s pretty straightforward to see something good from the poor.

Brands to look for when choosing a charcoal BBQ under $200

Suppose you ignore my informationranges and want to hunt for a bargain elsewhere. I am a true Weber fanboy, and I must suggest any of the Weber or Char-Broil range.

Conclusion on the best charcoal BBQ under $200 pick

Yes, I am a Weber fanboy; for under 200, my best BBQ choice is the Char-Griller Patio Pro. It makes it a top choice. This compact charcoal BBQ has just as much firepower as some of the expensive grills on the market. A deserved winner!
